Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University

Sidho Kanho Birsha University was founded in 2010 in Purulia, West Bengal, India. The focus is to encourage and protect indigenous culture and language specially the Santali language. It has 25 colleges are associated to the university. There are nineteen degree colleges, four Bachelor of Education colleges and one private college. Its post-graduate departments began functioning from the 2011-12 session with twelve academic departments (History, Political Science, Bengali, Santali, Philosophy, English, Sanskrit, Education, Physics, Mathematics & Commerce, and Chemistry). Over the years in an expansive and forward looking drive, they grew to seventeen departments with the introduction the Sociology, Tribal Studies, Economics, Geography & Zoology department, many of which are in the frontier fields of Science and Social Sciences. They are shortly going to set up the Department of Performing Arts to offer a greater dimension in growth and further development.
