Nalanda Open University

Nalanda Open University (NOU) was founded in March 1987, is a most famous university at Patna in Bihar state, India. The University is accredited through the Distance Education Council (DEC), University Grants Commission, and Ministry of HRD, Government of India for imparting educational activity by distance mode. It is the only university in Bihar offering education via distance and open education. Nalanda Open University has twenty-eight study centers about Bihar and Jharkhand. The libraries were vast and widely famous, although there is a legend of a malicious fire in which many of the texts were put down and irrevocably lost.
