Guru Nanak Dev University or G.N.D.U.
was founded at Amritsar, India on 24 November 1969 to remember Guru Nanak Dev's
birth quincentennial celebrations. Guru Nanak Dev University has reached the
highest position of University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) through the
University Grants Commission (UGC). It campus is cover five hundred acres. The
University has risen to sixteenth rank in the top fifty universities of the nation,
as per recent survey carried on by 'India Today' and has achieved eleventh
Position, out of the five hundred universities, in Publications in science. The
university is pushing education in such fields as Information Technology, Science,
Arts, Management, Industrial Technology, Environment, Planning and
Architecture. The University nowadays shoots a line of thirty-five academic
departments at the University Campus and 148 associated colleges and seventy-one
Associate Institutes, most are located in the rural areas, but a large area is
still beyond the reach of the rural poor.
