Nalanda Open University Patna is the only post graduated University in the State of Bihar meant for lending learning exclusively by the system of distance education. It was launched in March, 1987 through an ordinance, promulgated by the Government of Bihar. It is called after the famous Nalanda University of Ancient India. It is recognized by the DEC- UGC, and Ministry of HRD, Government of India for lending education through distance mode. It proposes & objectives to offer educational opportunities to those who are unable to take up formal teaching and are still desirous to upgrade their educational makings and acquire knowledge in respective fields of learning through the print medium (correspondence course), contact programmes, study centres and mass media. Nalanda Open University Patna is also offered following PhD degree program through Distance Mode.
