The Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) Centre at IIT Roorkee has began on 1971 under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Education New Delhi after its inception and has been endeavoring to better the quality of technical teaching in the nation. The Centre has been transferred under AICTE on 1994 and it being one of the 7 QIP Centres in the nation, the centre at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee has been engaging all major targets of QIP which let in.

The Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) Centre has been helping lots institutions nationally by publishing technical literature in the form of text books, monographs, lab manuals etcetera, and also keeping regular interaction with them for bettering the criteria of technical education. Several departments at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, are taking part in the activities sponsored by several QIP schemes. The QIP Centre has assisted in promoting the qualification of around three hundred forty-eight teachers in Master of Engineering and about four hundred seventy-seven teachers in Ph.D. programme from all over India.
